In March 2017 NBPDCL, Civil published an open tender calling for companies to assist with the “Provision & Installation of Mini Water Treatment Plant at different Locations in Phase-I under NBPDCL”. The tender was recorded as NIT No. 06/PR/NBPDCL/2017. Innotech Aqua was awarded the tender and a six-month contract was signed in late June 2017. Work commenced on 1 July 2017.

Motivation for the project
NBPDCL delivers a decentralised service that requires employees such as administration and customer care staff to work in remote locations. NBPDCL also maintains a staff presence at all power sub-stations. Mr Pratyaya Amrit, Chairman cum Managing Director of NBPDCL recognised that the existing water improvement programs were strongly focused on residential communities and that they did not address the needs of the government employees working in the remote locations. Consequently, the project was established to ensure that all staff in all locations would have access to safe drinking water. This included visitors to any NBPDCL facility.

Scope
The final scope covered 214 sites including 16 Colony’s, 8 Divisional Offices, 36 Sub-Divisions, and 154 PSS (Power Sub Stations).

Deliverables
The project delivered 214 mini water plants, comprising:
(a) 2 x 1000 litre tanks
(b) 2 x stands
(c) Filters for bacteria, iron and arsenic
(d) Plumbing
(e) 2 x taps (min)

In addition, new 50(1HP) motors were installed, 8 boreholes established, and 214 waste water slabs constructed. Please see appendix 2 and 3 respectively for further details. Innotech Aqua also flew in an international media team to create a video presentation of the project.

The project will be supported with a 5-year maintenance program.

Financials
The cost per litre over 5 years is 20 Paisa.

Timeline
The tender stipulated a six-month project. The contract was signed in late June and the project commenced early July. It was delivered in five months.

Results
The project delivered an outstanding result in the improvement of water quality.
